If you cannot hire a house sitter ask a neighbor to keep an eye on your home in case something suspicious happens. Always give the person who you left in charge a phone number an email address or any method of contacting that you have available.

There are also timers that you can install to various appliances to give the impression that someone is inside that house. Some of these timers may even be already in your home like radio and television timers. Other ones like light timers may require a visit to your local hardware shop. Still, they are worth the investment. Perhaps, it is a good idea to cut your lawn if you will be several weeks away. This way your house does not appear to be abandoned and would not be looked as an easy prey for a burglar.

The mail is also something that makes a house look abandoned quite fast. The first sign that lead people in to the idea that nobody is around is an overstuffed mailbox. Tell your neighbor to help you on this one if you have a good relationship. If it is impossible to find a house sitter and you do not have a timer for your Tv, tell your neighbor to turn on your Tv in the evening.
